Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has experienced a difficult season, managing just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in specific - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-time mentor Cervara.

Currently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks the player's first title since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface since that period of the previous year.

The win also means he has won twenty-one titles at 21 distinct events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters together, so to get a championship is particularly special," said ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his previous six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's retrieving strategy and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted some to wonder if his ability to play at the highest level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an better service.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, taking four of the last five points to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped breaks in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden tour title, gained dominance to force a final set.

The opponent rescued 4 early break points in a competitive third set before the Russian broke to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he secured victory with a shot at the net area, with Moutet failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
